Recent Travels - Boston & NY

Here are some shots of my recent trip to Boston and New York. Work, work, work, work, and a few tasty meals in between......

Good Morning Boston!

The restrooms a the Barking Crab were covered with old maps and random sketches. I like the photo, but I have to say that I was a little embarrassed to take it, who knows what the other ladies thought with my flash going off inside the stall.... lol.

Walking back to the hotel in the Boston moonlight.

I thought this graffiti was really interesting outside the offices where we had our meetings.

......AND THEN TO NEW YORK!!
This is the 'illegal' Pastis photo.... I found out that they don't allow photography in their cafe because a lot of their guests are famous and don't want to be photographed, as well as the wait staff... as "many of us are actors" said our waiter. This seemed bass-ackwards to me. In LA, you want publicity! Anyway, I was really more interested in the tile work and the design of the light fixtures.

The 'legal' Pastis photo... nobody in the background, just me and Nicole.

Meat packing district, Kim and I with Louis and Albert.

On the way to the airport, snapped this gem by Keith Haring (I can only assume) by hanging my camera outside the taxi.

R.I.P. Julius Shulman

See the L.A. Times Article HERE.

Shulman was one of the greatest and most loved modern architecture photographers of all time. My friend Rhoi, seen in the picture below with Shulman said that, "I was going to call him. He was that kind of guy, you could just call with some questions and he was always willing to chat." From what I hear, Mr. Shulman was a very kind hearted and passionate man. In my opinion we can never have enough of that in this world. I am sad that I was never able to cross paths with this talented individual who captured so many memories in the eyes and hearts of so many. We've lost yet another legend this month that changed the world with thier presence.

Shulman's most famous photograph. watch the video on the LA Times page with the photographer telling the story of how this "masterpiece" came to be.

Sunday at the Museum

Choi Jeong-Hwa is one of twelve artists that are part of the new exhibition at LACMA.

"This exhibition presents the work of twelve artists from South Korea who were born between 1957 and 1972. Coming of age amid political turmoil and increased freedom, they are keenly aware of their position as citizens of an increasingly prosperous but divided country in a rapidly globalizing cultural and economic environment. By focusing, often humorously, on the ephemerality of life and identity as well as the limitations of communication across languages, cultures, and generations they make presence, absence, and change the center of their work."
~ LACMA website

The bold swaths of fabric that are currently decorating the outside of the museum are brilliant in the LA sunshine! So bright, so intriguing.... we had to go up to check out the scene and play a little bit. :)

who knew Z would wear the perfect colors.?!
I still heart you L.A.

Hi, I'm a rug

Hi, I'm a rug and I'm ugly.
Of course, I'm the right size and shape you want, but I really have no aesthetic value and am a disgrace to the design world. I am the right price...manufacturers closeout!!!!.... but that's because nobody wants me.

Hi, I'm a rug and I'm hella-expensive.
Be prepared, because you are going to have to go without food and electricity for 3 months in order to afford me. However, you will have soft cushy loveliness to walk on and your footsies will delight over my twinkles of my silk threads.

damn. I need a raise.
