kitchen quanundrum part 1

My new little apartment has a special spot very a very tiny refrigerator. However, my fridge is normal 2009 size and won't fit in the designated 1940's size spot. So begins my quest to fill the hole in my kitchen. Initial thoughts:

1. Small niche/desk for computer and doing bills.
2. Butcher block cart of some kind
3. further expanding on the butcher block cart to full on rolling island with storage.

Notes:
* I currently have about 2 feet of working counter top. I've adjusted by placing bamboo cutting boards over the stove top and only utilizing 2 burners when cooking. If I ever cook for more then 1 or 2 people, there could be serious issues.

*Living room layout is not complete... possible spot for desk there?

*Width is restricted to less than 34", Depth less than 25"

* I like the idea of a desk, so I can utilize one of my dining chairs. (only 2 fit currently without the leaf in place. the other 2 sit off to the side) Also, I like the idea of having a designated spot for my computer. I can cook and surf web at same time. Would also utilize space above desk for pinboard/inspiration board.

* Butcher block sounds chic and is functional. It would increase both storage and horizontal space which is much needed. Having casters and the ability to move around sounds cool but don't know how often it will be utilized based on the tiny size of the overall kitchen.

* I have Champagne taste on a beer budget.... let's try to keep it under $300 please?!
